This is it. The machine that leads the way in high-performance gravel bicycles that everyone else is chasing.

The Warbird Carbon isn't trying to be a touring bike. It isn't trying to be a bikepacker's dream. It didn't put commuting on the to-do list. It was designed from the outset as a performance gravel machine that literally leaves the competition in the dust. Salsa introduced the Warbird in 2012, giving the model a years-long head start on industry rivals. Constructed of a range of different qualities of carbon fiber, the Warbird's frame and fork can handle intense, out-of-the-saddle efforts while remaining feather-light. Since unpaved roads are rough all of the time, Salsa developed the Class 5 Vibration Reduction System, or VRS. Class 5 VRS allows the seat stays to flex while traversing rough surfaces, improving rider comfort from mile 1 to mile 191 and beyond. The seatstays are bridgeless, allowing more uninterrupted length to be tuned for a better ride quality and improve mud clearance. 12mm thru-axle rear dropouts improve torsional strength for better handling and power transfer. Up front, the head tube is also tapered from 1-1/8"-to-1-1/4", adding an extra element of torsional strength to the frameset. A fully carbon fiber fork reduces overall bike weight, while soaking up fatiguing vibration. 15mm thru-axle fork dropouts add an extra dash of razor-sharpness to the Warbird's handling. Internal cable routing keeps the Warbird Carbon looking clean and sleek, while 3 bottle cage mounts allow more water to be carried on any given expedition. When really wide tires are needed, the Warbird Carbon can fit meaty rubber up to 44mm. A tall head tube, low bottom bracket and relaxed geometry allows a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilites- to get comfortable for sunup-to-sundown adventures.

With all that going for it, the Warbird Carbon needed to have a solid component build for performing up to a dedicated cyclist's expectations. Salsa didn't disappoint in that department by adding Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra drivetrain. The front derailleur, rear derailleur and 50/34T alloy compact crankset are all Ultegra units, ensuring impressive reliability and lightning-quick operation for years to come. The RS685 dual-control levers are also from Shimano, featuring their familiar paddle shifting. A Shimano 105 11-32T cassette brings a wide gearing range to the party when the going gets steep. Stopping power is provided by a set of Shimano RS785 hydraulic disc brake calipers and 160mm rotors, boasting excellent stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine (or mud).

The wheelset of the Warbird Carbon is supplied by DT Swiss, ensuring excellent build quality and performance. The CR1600 alloy wheels are tubeless-ready, and are shod with gravel-ready 700x40c Maxxis Rambler tires. A WTB Volt Race saddle sits atop a Salsa Carbon seatpost, while an alloy Salsa Guide stem and alloy Salsa Cowbell 2 handlebar with a 12 degree flare complete this high-performance adventurer.
